I was invited to attend the Sean Lives On cancer benefit at Highline Ballroom.
The Sean Lives On Cancer Benefit is a collective of concerts thrown to raise money for youth cancer care and research.
The venue was just your average nightclub, but with Project 46 headlining and the “Sp3cial Gu3st” that I assumed would be 3LAU based on the pretty obvious Facebook hints, I knew it would be a memorable night.
Of course the sets were amazing, including Namo and Contact. Everyone there, mostly college kids, were having a great time. There were good vibes all around; getting to know other people from North Carolina (where I’m from) was a surprising bonus. Thomas from Project 46’s ran his whole set on his own since Ryan couldn’t make it in time from his flight, and he absolutely killed it!
The fact that this event was for a good cause, to raise money for pediatric cancer research, made it even better. In fact, all proceeds from the Sean Lives On cancer benefit were donated to youth cancer care and research!
After Project 46, the final set both Ryan and Thomas came down to the dance floor to talk to the people who still
remained, including me. Of course I had to get a picture with my not-so-good-quality iPhone camera (as seen above). Both Ryan and Thomas were really down to earth and welcoming even though my enthusiasm was probably overwhelming. All in all, these guys are great onstage and offstage and I know this won’t be the last time I see them live.
Despite it not being the typical rave scene since the majority of the people there belonged to a fraternity/sorority from Binghamton University (shout out to Pi Kappa Alpha!). The Sean Lives On event at Highline ballroom was an overall great experience.
Last week, I also had the unique opportunity to interview Project 46 which you can check out here.
ABOUT SeanLIVESon:
SeanLIVESon was founded in 2012 by Zach Kardisch with the idea that one day, no parent will have to see their child die of pediatric cancer again. Sean Riley, a vibrant teenager from Long Island, was diagnosed in 2007 with pediatric cancer, and lost his battle in April of that same year. Sean was a loving son, fantastic student, a caring brother, and a great friend. A lover of music, Sean Lives On supports the Riley family and Winthrop Children’s Pediatric Cancer Treatment Center in Mineola, NY, both of which are now partnered and give their full support to with Sean Lives On.
Winthrop Children’s Pediatric Cancer Treatment Center was instrumental in treating Sean with the highest level of care, and was pillar in aiding the Riley family. Sean Lives On held its inaugural concert in April of 2012, raising over $10,000, and subsequent events have raised over $30,000. With this success, Sean Lives On is striving for continued awareness of pediatric cancer in 2014 with the goal of raising $50,000 through our Concerts for a Cause. 100% of all proceeds are donated directly to Winthrop Hospital, and all organizers of these events work pro-bono year-round.
